Jonathan turns 2!

Happy birthday to Jonathan.

His birthday breakfast. We sure missed daddy being there, but he had to work, so he just sang happy birthday over the phone with us.

That's right, he is 2! He is growing up so quickly.

He thought his special birthday breakfast was pretty neat.

We decided to do cake and ice cream on Saturday night so we could have some friends over. I kind of struggle with making WAY too many goodies on occasions like this. Oh, well. Morgan took some to work and to some neighbors after. We made Holly's delicious bowl cake in the dump truck, some party rainbow chip cupcakes, and my personal favorite, red velvet mini cupcakes with a cream cheese filling and frosting and some white chocolate shavings on top.

Singing happy birthday, blowing out the candles, and playing with his friends were Jonathan's favorite parts of the night.

At the end Daddy brought in a special surprise for Jonathan! He loves his bike. Although, this particular one is a bit too big, I am sure that as soon as we take it back and get the smaller version, he will have everything figured out and will be riding non-stop in no time. For now, he just enjoys sitting there and making motorcycle sounds. He is definitely all boy!

He keeps us smiling

Every day I am amazed by my little Jonathan. He is getting so much more independent, and yes, more stubborn with each passing day.

He refuses to have anyone help him when he goes potty, and I mean no help. He has to undress and dress himself, climb on the potty himself, and wipe and flush himself. Although, I definitely encourage this type of strong willed autonomy, sometimes it is difficult as a mom to have to sit back and watch as your little one grows up faster than you'd like.

It's encouraging, however, to know that even though he is choosing to be more independent, he really does still need me. He is such a sweetheart and always wants to be close to me. Together, we read books, play cars, and of course, wrestle a bit. The other day, he was pretending his bed was a car and wanted me to sit right there next to him. He was surprisingly insistent, actually. So I came and sat next to him and laughed and talked with him. But the real reason he wanted me to sit by him, was so he could lean down every 10 seconds and ask me for a kiss. He would look at me with those bright blue, darling eyes and ask, "Kiss, please." Then he would pucker up those cute little lips and tilt his head, and plant one of his super sweet and super wet kisses on me. It melted my heart.

Most of you know, that a little bit ago, I was so worried that he had some speech impediment or hearing problem. He wasn't saying words, and the very few he did, weren't understandable at all. Well, turns out, I was being a worry wort. He is now officially a chatter box. He talks about everything. I love hearing him tell me about the truck that just passed and everything else that he thinks is so important. I really shouldn't worry about these things. I know that all kids learn things at different times and as long as I am doing all I can, he will be fine.

I know this post is all about Jonathan, but he is my life. We have so much fun together and I thank my Heavenly Father every day for him and the gift that he is in my life. I would not be the same without him, and I am grateful for that fact, because he has definitely changed me for the better. I have learned patience, humility, and the true meaning of "tired to the bone" from being his mom, more than I could have learned through any job or any other life experience.

Here are a few pictures of this fantastic little guy. Although, he doesn't think he is so little anymore. But to mom, he will always be my little boy.

Often times, I find him running around like this. I never realized how difficult it would be to keep a little boy dressed during the day. He loves to strip down to his undies, and even better, loves to run around in his boots. He is actually quite obsessed with his boots and his church shoes. He always has one pair or the other on. The little mischievous grin, that round belly, the little chubby legs, and of course his undies and books; is a combination that makes me laugh every single time!

What did I tell you? Here he is, just out of the bath and already has his church shoes on. He is such a crack up.

It would take an entire post to describe his obsession with cars and car keys! When we were in Utah, at Holly and McKay's house, I walked into the foyer to find him sitting like this. He was even trying to steer the tiny little wheel with the tips of his fingers. Just about every single day and all day long, you can find him toting around a set of car keys.

And everything I have just described, makes up this cute little thing. With all the sass, stubbornness, and goofiness, he has always been and will always be my handsome, sweet little boy!

He loves to help me study. Although, sometimes his idea of studying involves him sitting right on top of my book and showing me his toys. It's about then, that I realize I am probably due for a play break.

Doesn't matter the time of day, we can always have fun and be silly with each other. This particular morning, we spent quite a chunk of time playing in these boxes. I'm pretty sure I had as much fun as he did.

Here he is in Utah, helping shovel snow at Uncle Brian and Aunt Debbie's house. He loved the snow and especially loved being at their house. They were kind enough to watch him while Morgan and I went to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert with my mom and dad. I am so glad that he loved the snow and that the cold never even fazed him.

Carving pumpkins

Jonathan preferred to use a spoon while mom used her hands. Who is the kid here? The guts are my favorite part! And dad can do the detailed carving, he is great at that!

A day in dad's shoes!

One of Jonathan's favorite thing is to put on daddy's shoes and try to walk around in them.

The shoes are so huge on him. He looks so cute and small again. Some days I feel like my little boy is growing too quickly.

Birthday Cake

I made a couple different treats and we had some friends over to help us eat them all. For Morgan's actual birthday cake, I made a baked Alaska cake. It was so yummy.

The pictures didn't turn out so well, if I knew how to photoshop, I would have fixed them, but since I haven't figured that out yet, they remain dark.

Happy birthday to a wonderful husband and dad! We love you so much and are so glad we got to help you celebrate your birthday.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Morgan turned 26 on October 3, 2010. We had so much fun celebrating his birthday. I love a good excuse to have a party.

Jonathan and I woke up early excited to make Morgan's birthday a great one. We started the morning off with a very special breakfast, waffles topped with peaches, ice cream, and a dollop of whipped topping.

We even put a candle in his waffle and sang happy birthday to him. Well, I sang happy birthday, while Jonathan kept trying to blow the candle out.

Jonathan thought this special breakfast was pretty neat. He devoured the ice cream and most of his peaches, and left his waffle pretty much untouched.

Scrub a dub dub my little fish in the tub.

My little boy is turning into quite the fish. He could play in the bath all day long. And at the pool he is wanting to go off on his own now. He is growing up too fast!
