Carving pumpkins

Jonathan preferred to use a spoon while mom used her hands. Who is the kid here? The guts are my favorite part! And dad can do the detailed carving, he is great at that!

One of Jonathan's favorite thing is to put on daddy's shoes and try to walk around in them.

The shoes are so huge on him. He looks so cute and small again. Some days I feel like my little boy is growing too quickly.

Birthday Cake

I made a couple different treats and we had some friends over to help us eat them all. For Morgan's actual birthday cake, I made a baked Alaska cake. It was so yummy.

The pictures didn't turn out so well, if I knew how to photoshop, I would have fixed them, but since I haven't figured that out yet, they remain dark.

Happy birthday to a wonderful husband and dad! We love you so much and are so glad we got to help you celebrate your birthday.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Morgan turned 26 on October 3, 2010. We had so much fun celebrating his birthday. I love a good excuse to have a party.

Jonathan and I woke up early excited to make Morgan's birthday a great one. We started the morning off with a very special breakfast, waffles topped with peaches, ice cream, and a dollop of whipped topping.

We even put a candle in his waffle and sang happy birthday to him. Well, I sang happy birthday, while Jonathan kept trying to blow the candle out.

Jonathan thought this special breakfast was pretty neat. He devoured the ice cream and most of his peaches, and left his waffle pretty much untouched.

My little boy is turning into quite the fish. He could play in the bath all day long. And at the pool he is wanting to go off on his own now. He is growing up too fast!

Labor day weekend

We had planned on taking off early on Friday to go camping all weekend, but for some reason, we didn't leave until Sunday afternoon. It wasn't a bid deal, though. We were just excited to go and be in the mountains for a bit. We only had to drive a little over an hour to find this beautiful camping spot. It was perfect and we were so lucky it was open. Jonathan loved playing in the water and probably would have stayed in all evening. Once his lips started turning blue, I made him get out. Mean mom!

Labor day cont...

It took us a bit to figure out how to set up our new tent. Last time we went camping, we had all three of us and our gear packed into one of those ultra-small, ultra-light backpacking tents. It was VERY cozy to say the least. I love our new tent. We have so much more room to spread out. And the best part, it is a 4-season tent. Last time we camped in the winter, I thought I might freeze to death. Now I know I won't with this tent!

For some reason Jonathan got all upset about something and being the really nice mom I am, I decided to take a picture and then see what he was so mad about. Turns out he was mad a nothing, but at least I got this picture. I thought it was kind of funny. He almost looks like he is crying and saying, "Dad, I am starving. Hurry up and finish cooking dinner." Always dramatic!

After playing in the water, Jonathan was freezing, so we let him warm up in the car for a bit. You can tell he hates the car! Um, not really. He could spend hours playing in the car.

Morgan was in charge of all the food, so we definitely didn't want for anything. He even cooked us steaks!

Labor Day Hike

So this story is really great.

We packed up camp and decided to head back down the canyon and take this hike we saw on our drive up. The hike was posted as a 1-mile hike each way, couldn't be that bad, right? Ha. Well, it wasn't 1-mile each way, it was more like 2-miles each way, and steep, steep, steep. I slipped so many times on my way down. At that moment, I was concentrating so hard on not tumbling the whole way down the mountain, I didn't really think about what our return journey would be like.

We reached the bottom and played around there for a bit. Morgan fly fished, Jonathan loved playing in the water and was soon completely drenched, and I had fun walking up and down the river in that cool water.

As we sat down to wring out our socks, these pesky flies started buzzing around our heads. Then they became kamikazi flies. They started dive bombing for our mouths, eyes, noses, and ears. I thought I was going to go mad. Jonathan was laughing at us as we tried to swat the flies away. One actually made it in Morgan's mouth and one made it up my nose. They were insane!

So we started heading back up the hill. I had Jonathan to begin with, on the portion of the hike that was actually the steepest, and soon had to hand him off to Morgan. About half way up, we were both so thirsty, we could barely stand it, not to mention completely out of breath. This was the steepest hike I have ever been on.

We were at almost 8,000 feet elevation, accidently only brought 1 water bottle to share, and were seriously not anticipating to see lightening clouds coming at us.
Being as tired as we were, we tried so hard to pick up the pace. After 5 minutes our pace was back to "slow" and we were both dying for more water.
Don't you worry, though. We made it to the top and had a good laugh once we had downed some cold water.

It was a beautiful hike, just a bit more difficult than we were prepared for. I think we might try it again sometime, though. Maybe after we have lived here in Silver City at this higher elevation for a while. Oh, and we will be prepared with a lot more water!

Red Hot Children's Fiesta

We went to this Children's Fiesta in the park with some friends. They had all these booths and prizes for the kids. They also had some animals. Jonathan was a bit nervous when he got close to the falcon. But from a distance, he thought it was really cool. This was my favorite part of the Fiesta. The falcon was absolutely amazing and a little intimidating! They are pretty tough looking.

The other animals they had were; an armidillo, a baby boa, a parrot, and a couple others I can't remember. The armadillo was also pretty neat to see. They wouldn't let anyone touch him. I guess a lot of people were getting pinched by his shell. Still cool to see.
